Jukai and Wagessa Ceremony

On Thursday, November 30, 2006, there was a Jukai and Wagessa ceremony at the Portland Dharma Center for 7 people.

Greg Hill, Carla Welker and Ron Rubino all took the first 5 precepts, vowing not to kill, not to steal, not to lie, not to misuse sexual energy, and not to misuse drugs or alcohol. They received a Wagessa, which is a hand sewn garment symbolizing the Buddha's robe. (No photo currently available.)

Pictured below are James Jakuen Jack, Mark Rinsan Pechovnik, Ed Gensho Welsh, and Ann Senryu Pechovnik, who all received Jukai. They received the 16 Buddhist precepts, including the vows mentioned above. They also received a lineage chart, and a rokusu. (For more information about any of these terms see our glossary.)
