Speaking Freely

Learning to speak with compassion, skill and authenticity.

May 21 - 23

Led by Daitetsu Hull & LaShelle Yoan Charde

5pm Friday - 1pm Sunday

In many conversations we sometimes choose to swallow our truth and be "nice", or we speak our truth and regret it later. During this retreat we will investigate what is authentic, compassionate speech, and learn how to speak our truth with skill.

Some of the skills we will learn and practice:

  • Speaking from our core values
  • Active listening
  • Skillful interrupting
  • How to speak when we are triggered
  • How to ask for support
  • How to give and receive appreciation

This retreat will include teachings from Zen Buddhism, as well as from Marshal Rosenberg's Non Violent Communication and Hal and Sidra Stone's Voice Dialogue.

Daitetsu Hull is a resident Zen Priest at Great Vow Zen Monastery where he has been in formal training since September, 2000. He has a passion for this work due to the transformation he has seen in his own life.

The foundation for LaShelle Yoan Charde’s work comes from her Zen practice, experience as a trainer in personal growth, community building, and Nonviolent Communication. She holds a Master’s degree in psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. For the past twelve years, she’s worked as a professional helping youth and adults. Visit LaShelle's website.
