Governance
Zen Community of Oregon is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Directors are ZCO members and serve three-year terms. The President, Treasurer, and Secretary are elected by the Board for a term of one year. Board meetings are open.
Committees are set up to do focused work on areas like Communications, Programs and Events, and Public Service. Great Vow Zen Monastery is led by the co-abbots Chozen Bays, Roshi and Hogen Bays, Roshi. Heart of Wisdom Zem Temple is led by Temple Manager Nancy Kodo Conover with the assistance of a Temple Council.

The primary purpose of Zen Community of Oregon is:
To express and make accessible the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha’s teachings, as transmitted through an authentic, historical lineage.
To support and maintain Zen Buddhist practice in order to realize and actualize our Buddha nature in everyday life.
