Zen Community of Oregon Statement of Inclusivity
The Zen Community of Oregon welcomes everyone. We study together and practice for the benefit of all beings and this living earth. We recognize the suffering caused by biases, prejudices, systems of power, privilege, and oppression based on race, sex, class, age, ethnicity, religion, national origin, ability, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression. We aspire to do no harm and to dismantle barriers thatcause separation and suffering, recognizing that our liberation is interconnected with the liberation of all.
The primary purpose of Zen Community of Oregon is:
To express and make accessible the wisdom and compassion of the Buddha’s teachings, as transmitted through an authentic, historical lineage.
To support and maintain Zen Buddhist practice in order to realize and actualize our Buddha nature in everyday life.
At Zen Community of Oregon we acknowledge and recognize the enduring inequities and karma of systems of oppression in our country that continue to persist today. We would like to welcome you if you are a woman, a person of color, LGBTQ* or economically disadvantaged. If you are considering coming to a retreat or into residency, we have scholarship money available and encourage you to apply.
