March Sesshin – Deep Listening

March 17 - 26, 2023

Friday at 5pm to Sunday at 1pm

Watch a short Video from Jogen Sensei, detailing the practice of deep listening:

The Joys of Sound with Jogen Sensei

Awareness meeting sound has been a gate into the depths of the heart-mind for as long as human beings hve longed to open.

How does the heart respond to the song of the kettle or the crunch of gravel below our feet? How do we attend to the field of sound that is our life? During this sesshin we come together in joyous recognition of the power of deep listening, and sink into the rhythms of our wild, wonderful and mysterious life.

How do we listen to the sweet melodies of our favorite songs or the grind of an old furnace? Everything is calling out to us! Awaken! Hello! I love you!

We will offer our love and kind attention to the whole field of our experience, the senses wide open, tuning in to the field of sound with particular care during this retreat.

Quiet the mind and wake up! Let deep listening draw you in, draw you out, and bring you into a more inclusive relationship with your life.

Sesshin is a rigorous and, at times, challenging silent meditation retreat that is not recommended for beginners. In order to attend in person, we require that you attend one of our silent weekend retreats or a five-seven day silent retreat at another Zen Center before registering for our longer Zen retreats. For more information about what to expect when attending a sesshin, click here.

This is a hybrid retreat and will be offered both in person and on zoom.

Proof of vaccination and booster is required to attend events at Great Vow Zen Monastery. For the latest on our health policies click here.
